Clinical Pathology Laboratory

Clinical pathology supports the diagnosis of diseases using laboratory testing urine, stool, body fluids and microscopic evaluation of individual cells. It is concerned with disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Clinical pathologists are healthcare providers with special training. Our board-certified clinical pathologist, research officers and technologist provide laboratory results timely and efficiently. The laboratory performs routine tests such as urine, stool and body fluid (CSF, Pleural, Peritoneal, Pericardial, Synovial fluid etc) cytology and analysis. Special tests for stool are faecal occult blood (OBT), faecal egg count (FEC), ova count, faecal fat estimation, Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora and other intestinal parasites identification. Special tests for urine such as Phase Contrast Microscopy for identification of dimorphic RBC in urine, Leukocyte esterase, urobilinogen, Bile salts are also conducted. Clinical Pathology Laboratory is under the coverage of Laboratory Information Management System and it is a combination of automated analysis along with manual microscopy of clinical samples. The laboratory maintains international standards in use and has accreditation of medical laboratories ISO 15189:2012 for Medical laboratories - Requirements for quality and competence and ISO 15190:2003 Medical Laboratories - Requirements for Safety. Along with providing patient services to Dhaka hospital, Staff Clinic, outpatient services, the laboratory also provides quality research support and collaborates with both the institutional and external researchers. Quality control of the lab activities is continued by participation in External Quality Assurance Scheme through College of American Pathology also by intra laboratory comparison with other standard laboratories.
