What is being tested?

CMV IgM assay is used to perform qualitative detection of IgM antibodies to Cytomegalovirus in human serum and plasma.  CMV testing detects antibodies in the blood that the body produces in response to the infection or detects CMV directly. A positive CMV IgM result in connection with low avidity result is a strong indicator of a primary CMV infection within the last 4 months.
